I corsi Acqualibera

Corso Base

The course takes place on a 13-meter cabined boat in Portovenere, Liguria.
The aim of the course is to make the student familiar with all the basic notions to make learning simple and easy, to lay down a basis upon which to develop proper sailing abilities.

Apart from the practical side, there are also lessons in theory which last about 2 hours and take place before actually gaining experience on board on the two weekends at sea included in the course. By the end of the course you will have learned to:

  • Know your way around the basic structure of a boat..
  • Recognize the wind as a reference .
  • To steer the boat and maintain the route.
  • To tack and gybe.
  • Make the most widely used marine knots

Advanced Course

The purpose of this course is to analyze and improve your ability to maneuver with a sail and begin the basic maneuvers using engine power. The course includes two theory lessons of 2 hours each held during onboard practice on the 2 weekends at sea included in the course.

By the end of the course you will have learned to:

  • Safely execute the main maneuvers (tacking and gybing)
  • Change and reduce the sails according to the wind
  • Laying to’
  • Execute a man-over-board rescue and recovery
  • Docking at the berth – basic technique (with engine)

Engine Maneuvers

No maneuver works well unless it has been well thought out and planned. Mind you, even the best thought out and studied maneuvers can turn into real disasters! This course on maneuvering takes place entirely on board a 12-meter sailboat… without the sails up.

Our attention here is focused on the most difficult of maneuvers, those that can stress out even the most expert of skippers: mooring, unmooring and guiding the boat in the tight waters of a harbour.
.

With an indispensable theoretical basis under the belt, and a lot of practice, you will learn the use of springs and ladders, become familiar with the effect of the propeller, we will try coming alongside English-style, French mooring techniques and … make lots of mistakes while doing so (after all, you’re there to learn, right?).

During summer cruises: Open Seas Navigation Course

The ideal season for taking this course is Spring and Summer, when Acqualibera undertakes the long trips needed to reach the coast chosen for the season’s activities.
You can really hone your skills during these moves; you will be trained to face real open sea challenges, navigate and handle all sorts of situations.
The topics dealt with in this course vary a great deal and depend a lot on the situations we’ll face:

  • Getting the boat ready for the crossing
  • Navigating with the stars
  • Boat and instrument repairs
  • Meteorology
  • Engine and mechanism maintenance
  • Fine-tuning of the sails to get the most out of the wind
  • Use of the gennaker, hoisting and furling
  • Reacting to a yaw
  • Nocturnal navigation
  • Other topics covering sailing

The lessons take place on the open seas so that everything you learn can be immediately put to use.
Departure and destinations depend on the summer program and the conditions of both the sea and weather.
No more than six students can be accepted for any single course.
